Sunset Over São Paulo, Brazil
October 8, 2008
The header image is of a sunset that I photographed in January, 2008. In the distance, across that stretch of the ocean, is mainland Brazil and the State of São Paulo.
I took this shot from my friend’s house on the island of Ilhabela (“eelya bella” is Portuguese for beautiful island). She and her husband were the first to build a house at this location on the side of a mountain overlooking the town. No property has a better view.
The Duck Shoot Blog – Human Rights And Stuff
January 4, 2011
If you are not familiar with my blog TheDuckShoot I invite you to visit. The excerpts from a recent post are a taster of the blog’s agenda. The agenda has changed a little from it’s inception but human rights and justice were always core subjects.
2011 – Is Peace Possible This New Year?
What is peace? To some it would mean the end of a war but how does one define war? Is a conflict that results in ‘only’ 200 deaths not a war? Does it have to be a conflict as serious as the war in Afghanistan with thousands of casualties to count as a war? Generally I think people see war as between two or more nations but civil wars are still being fought. And what about the drug wars in Mexico and Columbia?
We have International laws, charters, treaties and constitutions that are supposed to guarantee freedom but they have made little difference overall. Governments ignore the laws, so do corporations. Law-enforcement agencies break the laws and so do self-seeking individuals.
The full post is here and as a bonus there’s a video of the Great John Lennon singing ‘Give Peace A Chance’.
Encourage Your Children Start Coin Collecting As A Hobby
April 19, 2010
Encouraging your children to see coin collecting as a hobby is not necessarily easy, but still possible. Try to motivate them to like coin collecting by helping them realize the importance and benefit they can get from it.
Kids love the idea of treasure trove so the promise of their collection going up in value will inspire them. No false hopes though your kids will never forgive you. Explain that any increase in value is long term and that collectibles do lose value sometimes too.

Modern cover-ups and medieval power
The recent and seemingly never-ending revelations of child abuse by paedophile priests, Vatican cover-ups and papal involvement is merely a continuance of religious crimes centuries old. There is a link between the present day abuse of children and the Church’s absolute belief in its own infallibility and the Medieval Inquisition.
An article in the Washington Post uncovers an interesting parallel between “the war on terror” and the “war on heresy”. It should also be noted that Bush and his war criminal cohorts were also mainly Catholic.

BA is by normal business standards a bankrupt enterprise. What used to be known as “the world’s favourite airline” has fallen short in recent years on service and competitiveness.
So what’s the answer according to the overpaid CEO Willie Walsh? Well WW is a reincarnation of a cotton slaver. He believes punishment will induce the ’slaves’ loyalty and make them work harder for less money.
The basic salary of BA’s cabin crew is a mere £18,000 per year. Willie gets the same amount in 9 days for sitting on his butt scheming against the workforce and their union. He is also in line for a handsome perk of 1million GBP bonus if he makes BA’s customers happy.
Cabin crew who have taken perfectly legal strike action have had their travel perk taken away and Willie says he won’t be giving it back. So there you are he expects more cotton picked for less money, longer hours and a brutal whipping thrown in for good measure.

Sri Lanka Civil War: The Horror Exposed By Three Powerful CNN Videos – The Duck Shoot

Sri Lanka Civil War: The Horror Exposed By Three Powerful CNN Videos – The Duck Shoot.
It is clear from witness stories that both sides, the Sri Lankan military and the Tamil Tigers (LTTE) have committed atrocities. However, the refusal by the Sri Lankan Government to allow independent journalists in the war zone during the conflict does raise the question, what was it hiding. The press can visit now but with restrictions. There are still no-go areas and the army escorts journalists even in the permitted areas.

Sex Trafficking: India’s Shame
January 16, 2010
This shocking video reveals the extent of child trafficking for the Indian sex trade. The corrupt Indian police not only turn a blind eye to what is happening but many use these young girls for their own gratification.
Unfortunately the video isn’t viewable in all counties.

So Much To Do So Little Time To Do It
May 7, 2009
I love writing and blogging is the ideal platform to develope my writing skills. The problem of course is finding the time to research and write the articles.
There are periods, usually a few days, where even my main blog The Duck Shoot gets neglected. While I was in Brazil I logged my experiences at www.DaveKnight.ws but despite having lots still to post I have not written a thing since I returned to the UK. I’m making some changes to the design and I’ve got a new domain name too so I must get my ‘nose to the grindstone’. The new domain for Dave Knight’s blog is http://DaveKnightsBlog.com and I just set myself a goal; up and running in 10 days!
I did some adjustments to the theme template at www.CollectibleBitz.com but I’m not ecstatic about it I feel a new theme coming on and some brighter colours. Collecting is fun and should be colourful I think. Yes! Out with the brown and beige in with the bright and breezy.
Thousands of people facing the death penalty are not guilty of any crime. There is evidence that this could be as much or possibly more than 50%!

Israel Uses Illegal Weapons On Civilians
January 12, 2009
Human Rights Watch said multiple shell-bursts of white phosphorus were observed on 9th and 10th January close to Gaza City and Jabaliya refugee camp. Of course Israel has prevented foreign journalists into Gaza so that claims from inside Gaza cannot be substantiated.
If their action was legal and justified a gag on the press would not be necessary. But despite their denials the world knows the truth; Israel uses illegal weapons on civilians.
