The header image is of a sunset that I photographed in January, 2008. In the distance, across that stretch of the ocean, is mainland Brazil and the State of São Paulo.

I took this shot from my friend’s house on the island of Ilhabela (“eelya bella” is Portuguese for beautiful island). She and her husband were the first to build a house at this location on the side of a mountain overlooking the town. No property has a better view.

This shocking video reveals the extent of child trafficking for the Indian sex trade. The corrupt Indian police not only turn a blind eye to what is happening but many use these young girls for their own gratification.

Unfortunately the video isn’t viewable in all counties.

I love writing and blogging is the ideal platform to develope my writing skills. The problem of course is finding the time to research and write the articles.

There are periods, usually a few days, where even my main blog The Duck Shoot gets neglected. While I was in Brazil I logged my experiences at www.DaveKnight.ws but despite having lots still to post I have not written a thing since I returned to the UK. I’m making some changes to the design and I’ve got a new domain name too so I must get my ‘nose to the grindstone’. The new domain is www.DaveKnightsBlog.com and I just set myself a goal; up and running in 10 days!

I did some adjustments to the theme template at www.CollectibleBitz.com but I’m not ecstatic about it I feel a new theme coming on and some brighter colours. Collecting is fun and should be colourful I think. Yes! Out with the brown and beige in with the bright and breezy.

Thousands of people facing the death penalty are not guilty of any crime. There is evidence that this could be as much or possibly more than 50%!

For more information on why the death penalty should be abolished go here.

The Duck Shoot Blog reports and discusses some very important issues. From supermarket scams to forced child labour, from police corruption to war crimes, from animal cruelty to airport BS. Now a new weekly feature has been introduced The Duck Shoot “Lite”.

The Duck Shoot “Lite” dumps serious and reports funny, ridiculous, stupid and bizarre. Planned mostly to hit the site at weekends it is hoped to raise a chuckle amongst it’s readers. The first story reports on a list 20 ridiculous complaints by holidaymakers. Read it there are some real gems.

Take a gander (look) here.

Human Rights Watch said multiple shell-bursts of white phosphorus were observed on 9th and 10th January close to Gaza City and Jabaliya refugee camp. Of course Israel has prevented foreign journalists into Gaza so that claims from inside Gaza cannot be substantiated.

If their action was legal and justified a gag on the press would not be necessary. But despite their denials the world knows the truth; Israel uses illegal weapons on civilians.

Olga, a film made in 2004 by Brazilian director Jayme Monjardim, is emotionally moving and an inspiration to all people who crave a just new world. It is adapted from the biography by Fernando Morais on the German, Jewish and communist Olga Benário.

Santa In Brazil

Santa In Brazil

Why Am I Dressed As Santa?

Thanks to Stacy and Jan of Joplin, Missouri for this lovely Christmas story. It made me laugh and I hope it does you too.

A Christmas Story for people having a bad day:

When four of Santa’s elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure.

Then Mrs Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more.

When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where.

Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.

Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drank all the cider and hidden the liquor. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom.

Just then the doorbell rang, and irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.

The angel said very cheerfully, ‘Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn’t this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you Where would you like me to stick it?’

TheDuckShoot.com reports on the very public search and sexual assault of a teenage boy by Brazilian Police. Click to read the whole story.

Although I am not visiting the Santa Catarina I am writing about it because unprecedented weather conditions have devastated this entire State of southern Brazil. Floods, landslides and unrelenting rain have made thousands homeless and caused many deaths.

People have lost everything and although this kind of disaster affects both rich and poor it is always the poor who suffer most. The government, Local Authorities and emergency services reacted quickly and aid is pouring into the State. But more is needed and donations of much needed clothes and provisions can be sent via collection points within Brazil and via charities. Money for aid and reconstruction can be donated via the Banks.
